Margaret Sotvik, age 90, of Aneta, ND, left this world for the next on Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND. Services will be held at a later date.
Margaret Delores Haugo was born July 15, 1930, at home to Even and Signe Haugo. The youngest of seven children, she was baptized and confirmed at Sundahl Lutheran Church. Margaret attended school through the 10th grade when her dad gave her the option of school or helping on the farm.
Margaret met the love of her life, Sidney Sotvik, at a Saturday night dance in Aneta, ND. On June 10, 1951, they were united in marriage, making their home on the Sotvik farmstead. Margaret took pride in being a farmer’s wife and mother of their three children. Margaret taught Sunday School at Logan Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing and was always on hand for a parts run or whatever was needed. In her free time, she enjoyed rummage sales, bingo, attending dances, playing cards with friends and visiting neighbors. Sid and Margaret drove to Alaska in 1975 and to the Oregon coast in 1976, visiting family and friends along the way. They left the farmstead and moved into Aneta in 1977.
Margaret’s family and friends will remember her as a loving, kind, ever-cheerful woman with an easy laugh. She loved sparkly jewelry and red lipstick, knew the value of a polyester pantsuit and matching purse and shoes. She was a friendly neighbor and a loyal devoted friend. She was an attentive wife, loving mother, and the best grandmother any child could ask for. Margaret was a selfless woman, helping care for her parents and father-in-law as long as possible. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Margaret is survived by two sons: Steven (Ranae) Sotvik of Northwood, ND, and Jesse (Sharon) Sotvik of Shoshoni, WY; one daughter, Marie (Dean) Lofberg of Mahnomen, MN; seven grandchildren; Tanner (Alexis) Sotvik, Chance (Meghan Thomas) Sotvik, Tiana (Thomas) Leen, Melissa Edmunds, Logan Lofberg, Lance Lofberg and Macy Lofberg; two sisters-in-law, Marly Antonoplos and Lucille Haugo; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; Sidney, her beloved husband of 63 years; her brothers: Oliver, Vincent, Clemens, and Evan; her cherished sister, Thora Sassor and infant sister, Viola.

March 16, 2021 8:43 AMI will always remember Aunt Margaret for her quick smile, heartfelt laugh and rolling eyes when she knew she was being teased. She loved her family and embraced times spent together. She died on what would have been my father, her brother, Oliver’s 104th birthday. She will be dearly missed.

March 15, 2021 10:34 AMMargaret was always so fun to be around and always had a compliment for you. She was always fun at our morning breakfast at the cafe always looking her best and yes she loved her jewelry. When I worked at APHC she loved coming up and playing bingo with the residents and seeing that they shared in her winnings. Her house in Aneta has looked so lonely since she moved to NDHC. My sympathy to all of the family.
