Alice Lillian Thompson was born on January 19, 1921 to Henry and Ragna Thompson on their farm west of Hatton, ND. She attended English and Norwegian school at Newburgh #5 country school and was baptized and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church. On November 28, 1942, Lillian married Douglas Enger at the Northwood Lutheran Church parsonage. They made their home on the Thompson family farm where they farmed for a living and raised their three children: David, Barbara, and Steven. Lillian enjoyed handwork and crafts including embroidery, crocheting, and quilting, which she generously shared with family and friends and donated to be sold at Goose River Lutheran Church fundraisers. She was also an avid gardener and had a particular knack for growing morning glories, geraniums, and African violets. Lillian enjoyed cooking and baking and frequently hosted family gatherings on the farm. There was always room for one more at her table and her guests never left hungry. In fact, guests were often sent home with a bag of lefsa, flatbread, or cookies. Lillian’s meatballs, ribs, scalloped potatoes, company casserole, moon cake and rommegrot were family favorites.
Lillian was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her children: David (Eileen) Enger, Plymouth, MN; Barbara Enger, Jamestown, ND; and Steven (Dorothy) Enger, Hatton, ND; grandchildren: Anthony (Gretchen) Enger, Vincent (Vickie) Enger, Claudine (Dan) Galloway, Vanessa (Dan) Tierney, and Jennie (Seth) Archer; great-grandchildren: Emma, Sam, Sydney, Makayla, Alex, Bella, Lexi, Jenna, and Molly. She was looking forward to the birth of her tenth great-grandchild later this month.
Lillian was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Hazel, Lockhard, Ralph, Inga, Polly, Julie, Doris, and Sylvia.
