Verdell Gilbertson

Verdelll Gilbertson, 92, passed away Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. A memorial service will be held Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 2:30pm at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Larimore, ND. A visitation will be held from 1:30pm until the time of the service at the church.

Memorials are preferred to the Lom Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 763, Larimore, ND 58251.

Verdell Grace Slettebak was born May 19, 1933, at Petersburgh, ND, to Elmer and Beulah Slettebak. On November 22, 1953, Verdell married Glenn Carmen Gilbertson. They lived and farmed in the Niagara, ND area their entire lives.

Verdell was creative, talented and would tackle any project. She learned to decorate wedding/anniversary cakes and made countless cakes over the years. She was an amazing seamstress, sewing many cheerleading outfits, wedding gowns, bridesmaid dresses, men’s suits, not to mention endless quilts and square dance outfits. In their child-free years, Verdell and Glenn loved to square dance. They loved the dances and square dance community. Verdell was an active, lifelong member of Lom Church, Lom’s Ladies Aid, and Son’s of Norway. She loved painting, rosemaling and gardening.

Survivors include her children: Carter Gilbertson, Terry Gilbertson, Wendie Estes, Todd (Renee) Gilbertson, Melanie (Keith) Bergevin, Kent Gilbertson’s wife (Ronice); 10 grandchildren: Cory Gilbertson (Erica), Jamie Bjorlie, Casey (Camille), Brittani (Jason), Ian (Kelly), Bryan, Jacob, Rena, Sever and Easton; and six great grandchildren: Brayden, Kinley, Abigail, James, Aleia, Lillian; brother Les Slettebak and sister Debbie Moore, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Verdell was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn and youngest son, Kent Gilbertson; parents, brothers Sonny and Eldred.
