Ruth Thompson, 99, of Northwood, ND went to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. A private funeral service will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood. Burial will be in the Northwood Cemetery.

Ruth Mutchler was born September 29, 1921 in Northwood to Ross and Pearl (Skurdell) Mutchler. She was baptized and confirmed at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church. She attended school in Northwood and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN with a degree in religion and history.

On December 7, 1943, Ruth married Nels Thompson. They resided on the family farm where they were blessed with four children: David, Michael, Jeffrey, and Nancy. A few years after Nels passed away, Ruth moved into Northwood.

Ruth was a devout Christian woman who loved reading her bible and being involved with her church. She also had a passion for gardening, music, needlework, traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially children.

Survivors include her sons: David (Marjorie) Thompson, Northwood, ND; Michael (Maria Emilia) Thompson, Schulenberg, TX; grandchildren: Stephanie (Peter) Kelly, Steven (Kathy) Thompson, Tamara (Neal) Rau, Marielle (Chad) Twedt, Matthew Thompson, Claudia Valerio, Alexander (Maria) Thompson, Christopher Thompson, Paolo (Kathryn) Thompson, and Andrea Stone; 21 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and sister-in-law Judy Mutchler; Ruth is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband Nels, son Jeffrey, daughter Nancy, sister Marilyn, and brothers James and Ralph.
