Ruth Jacobson

Ruth Delores (Pratt) Jacobson passed away peacefully at the age of 94 on Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center.

Ruth’s journey began on December 12, 1930, in Devils Lake, North Dakota, born to Neil "Bert" and Bessie Pratt. Her family’s path eventually led them to Northwood in 1939, and it was here that Ruth truly established her roots, graduating from Northwood High School in 1948.

Her life of commitment began when she married Morris Jacobson, on October 23, 1954. Together, they built a life centered around family while farming west of Northwood before settling in town to raise their three children. Beyond her role at home, Ruth worked several years at Engen’s Market where she made lifelong friends.

Ruth was, first and foremost, a devoted family woman. She was a loving wife to Morris, a guiding force as a mother to Kevin, Todd, and Claudia, and a cherished grandmother and great-grandmother. Her legacy lives on through her children, Kevin (Jill) Jacobson, Kindred, ND; Todd Jacobson, Park City, UT; and Claudia (Kevin) Thielman, Grand Forks, ND, as well as her grandchildren and great grandchildren, Stephanie (Robert) Vaagene, children, Morgan (Drew) Offner, Parker and Presley; Tanner (Heather)Jacobson, children, Madison and Mason; Kassandra Jacobson, Trever Jacobson and children, Zoey and Hunter Jacobson and McKinley Woitte; Betsi (Jason) Arvin and children, Riley Ayla and Anthony; Savannah Jacobson and Tommy Jacobson. And the newest great-great-grandchild, Bronwyn Ruth; Sister in law, LaVonne Jacobson and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, her parents, her siblings Lyle, Robert, Donna, Betty, and Dwane, and her great-grandson, Randall Jacobson.

We remember her quiet strength, her devotion, and the love she poured into every member of her family. Ruth lived a full life, 94 years filled with the simple, meaningful acts that define a wonderful life.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Dec 6th at 1:00 pm at Bilden-Askew Funeral Home, Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 12:00 until the time of the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be sent to NDHC Northwood Ambulance Service.
