Ruth Berge

Ruth Berge, 92, of Northwood, ND passed away Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, where she had resided since December 2015. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. A visitation will be held Friday, August 26, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Bilden Funeral Home in Northwood.

Ruth Irene Sorlien was born April 3, 1924 in Montpelier, ND to Peter and Gina (Erickson) Sorlien. She grew to womanhood in the Hatton, ND area. She married B. Julius Berge on December 27, 1943. Julius died January 26, 1961.
Ruth was a member of Washington Lutheran Church, where she was active in ALCW, quilting and pie baking. She also enjoyed embroidering. Ruth worked in the dietary department at NDHC for 20+ years, retiring in 1987.

Ruth is survived by three daughters: Judy (Gerald) Koesterman, Larimore, ND; Carol (LeRoy) Carroll, Northwood, ND and Joyce (Gary) Ketchum, Crookston, MN. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren: Cory (Karlene) Koesterman, Memphis, TN; Brian (Kirsten) Carroll, Midland, MI; LeNae (Mike) Donaski, Wyoming, MN; Jodi (Lance) Fugleberg, Portland, ND; Jerilyn (Josh) Braaten, Portland, ND; Gina (Dan) Williard-Concepcion, Shippensburg, PA; 15 great-grandchildren; sister, Vivian Strande, Northwood; son-in-law, Ardell Krueger, Northwood; sister-in-law, Julie Sorlien, Fargo, ND; and several special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Lorraine Krueger and granddaughter, Stacy Koesterman; as well as brothers: Martin, Gilbert, Nordeen, Vergil and an infant Russell; and sisters: Hazel Bjerke, Pearl Hanson, Eleanore Shultz, Esther Bjerke, and Leona Verke.

Mom wanted to thank Delvin and Doris Gylten and her niece Marilyn Roch and all her friends at the Washington Church for their kindness, especially during the recent years.
