Rodney Thompson

January 1, 1942 — August 9, 2017

Rodney Lee Thompson, 75, of Hatton, ND, passed away on Wednesday, August 9, 2017 at Sanford Medical Center in Mayville, ND, after a courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton.

Rodney was born on January 1, 1942 to Lockerd and Therese (Tweten) Thompson in Grand Forks, ND. He attended country school until 8th grade and graduated from Hatton High School in 1961. He married Juliann Jorgensen on July 29, 1961. To this union, four children were born: Randy, Jeff, Teri, and Tracy. He farmed in the Hatton area all his life and was a clerk/treasurer for Garfield Township for 42 years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on numerous boards in the Hatton community. He met everyone with a smile and his quick witted one liners left everyone laughing. One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards and games with family and friends. He looked forward to going to Arizona in the winter and reuniting with his "AZ family".

Rodney is survived by his wife, Julie, of 56 years, his children: Randy (Laurie) Thompson of Hatton, Jeff (Shelly) Thompson of Thornton, CO, Teri (David) Holden of Hatton, Tracy (Jeff) Larson of Finley. Grandchildren: David Lueker of Peoria, AZ, Jonny (Heather) Thompson of Hatton, Rachael (Josh) Hilsinger, Mackenzie Thompson, Cole Thompson, all of Thornton, CO, Lindsey (Anthony) Holden of Las Vegas, NV, Adam (Susan) Holden, Austin (Fiance Joanie) Holden and Tyler Holden of Hatton, Mikayla Larson of Moorhead, MN and Jillian Larson of Finley, ND, 10 Great-Grandchildren. Sisters: Eileen Helgeson of Moorhead, MN and Lorna Nicholson of Maricopa, AZ. Brothers: Wayne Thompson, AZ and Gene (Cathy) of Hatton. Sister-in-law, Betty Thompson of Hatton, Brother-in-law, Cecil Cordahl of Park Rapids, MN and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Viola Groen and Shirley Cordahl, and brother: Jerry Thompson.
