Robert Hanson

Robert V. Hanson, 89, of Hatton, ND passed away Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 10:30a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the church.

He was born to Pete and May on February 7, 1926 in Northwood, ND and was raised in Hatton. On December 22, 1949, Robert married Donna Ness. They had three daughters: Laurel, Jane and Barbara.

From a young age, he worked on the dray line with his father Pete until he went in the Army. He was a World War II Veteran and was proud to say he and three of his brother all served their country at the same time.

After being discharged, he began working in the meat market in Hatton and later purchased the business with his brother Milford. After retirement in 1980, Robert worked part-time at the Ford garage and dealt blackjack on Saturday nights.

Robert purchased undeveloped land around Golden Lake with a vision. This vision came true. He and his family along with many others have enjoyed lake life for many years. His favorite times at the lake included spending time with his family, fishing and playing cards.

Dedicating more than 70 years volunteering on Hatton Fire Department, Robert was honored by the firemen with a dedication and plaque. He also received a letter of recognition signed by the President of the United States.

Robert is survived by his wife Donna of 66 years; daughters: Laurel Hedland of Hatton, Jane (David) Kleveland of Buxton, and Barbara Dakken of Fargo; grandchildren: Jared (Sandra) Hedland of Hatton, ND, Jamie (Kelly) Funk of Pelican Lake, MN, Corey (Jennifer) Hedland of Bismarck, ND, Sarah (Chad) Amb of Roberts, WI, Gena (Casey)Neumann of Bismarck, ND, Kara Kleveland of Fargo, ND, Christopher Kleveland of Hatton, ND, Beth Higdem of Wahpeton ND, Krista Dakken of Fargo, ND, Matthew Dakken, of Fargo, ND and Carley Dakken of Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Darian Hedland, Mavrik Hedland, Reggie Funk, Weston Funk, Sadie Funk, Alex Neumann, Jade Neumann, Brock Neumann, Madison Petrick, Connor Higdem, Harleigh Higdem, Madelyn Stencil; great granddaughter Emery; several nieces, nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Glenn, Stanford, Kenneth, Milford, Parnell, Jean and Ella Mae; and grandchild Victoria.
