Richard Orlando Mandt, 90, of Savage, MN and formerly of Northwood, ND, passed away Friday, March 13, 2026, at The Meadows Senior Living in Savage surrounded by family and loved ones. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the Washington Cemetery Fund.
Richard “Butch” Mandt was born August 3, 1935, in Northwood, ND, to Otto and Marie Mandt. He grew up in the Northwood area and graduated from Northwood High School. On December 12, 1959, Richard married Yvonne Bratlie. They raised their family in Northwood. Richard loved the land and farmed all his life. He was baptized and confirmed at Washington Evangelical Lutheran Church and served as a church council member as well as custodian. He also served as a director on the Northwood Equity Elevator Board and served on the Grand Forks Traill Rural Water Board.
He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, repairing motor bikes for his grandchildren and could fix anything that needed repair.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Yvonne; children: Joan (Tim) Shopbell and their children: Jack (Kathrine), Sam and Eli; Rachel (David) Lund and their children: Jens (Lucas), Joren, and Britta; Brian (Cindy) Mandt and their children: Brandon, Nathan (Abby), and Katherine. Brother-in-law Jerry Mandt, sisters-in-law Cheryl Mandt and Janet Bratlie, and several neices and nephews.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Marie Mandt; siblings: Norman (Audrey) Mandt, Edward Mandt, Barbara (James) Brogger. He is also preceded in death by an infant son, David and an infant daughter, Joyce.
Richard had a generous heart and lived his life tending the land and caring for his family and community.
