Richard Aasen

October 20, 1920 — July 12, 2014

Richard Aasen, 93, of Aneta, ND passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Aneta Parkview Nursing Home in Aneta. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014 at 2:00p.m. at Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta. A visitation will be held Friday, July 18, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00p.m. with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the Bilden Funeral Home in Northwood.

Richard was born October 20, 1920 in Northwood, ND at his grandparents, Nils and Laura Halvorson's home, the son of Roy and Nellie (Halvorson) Aasen. He was baptized at Sundahl Lutheran Church in Aneta. Richard attended the one room Wasness school through 8th grade, graduating from Aneta High School in 1938. He farmed with his father on the home farm in Loretta Township. On June 24, 1945, Richard was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Johnson at Sundahl Lutheran Church. He served on the Loretta Township Board, held offices on the West Union Church Council, Northwood Band Booster, Northwood PTA, and was the 1st President of the NDC 100 Club. He also took flying lessons, obtaining his private pilot's license. Richard became a resident of Aneta Parkview in 2012.
Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Patricia; daughters: Susan (Neil)Flom, Detroit Lakes, MN, Margaret DeLano, Alpharetta, GA, Elaine (Kip) Munford, Apollo Beach, FL; grandchildren: Michelle (Patrick) Donovan, Ada, MN, Jeffery (Stacy) Flom, Fargo, ND, Karin Flom, Washington, D.C., Jim (Victoria) DeLano, Birmingham, AL, SPC Paul (Bridget) DeLano, Temple, TX, Juliette Auger, Brainerd, MN; great-grandchildren: Danielle and Jonathan Willprecht, Chirstopher, Michael, Jonathan, Nicholas, Garret, and Levi Donovan, James and Amelia DeLano, Alyssa and Meghan DeLano, future grandson Hal Owen Flom, sister-in-law Ruth (Frank) Green, Pullman, WA. Richard is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, grandparents, sister Lorraine and brother-in-law LeRoy Jacobson, daughter Carol Auger and son-in-law Tom, son-in-law David DeLano, grandson Matthew Flom, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Carl and Mabel Johnson. He is also preceded in death by aunts, uncles, and several cousins.
