Phyllis Ruud

February 21, 1933 — September 7, 2014

Phyllis Ruud, 81, of Northwood, ND passed away Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 12, 2014 at 10:30am at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00pm with a 7:00p.m. prayer service at the church in Northwood.

Phyllis Darlene Schol, daughter of Kathryne (Schol) Gravdahl, was born on February 21, 1933 in rural Northwood. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1951. On February 21, 1953, Phyllis married Don Ruud at Crookston, MN. Together they raised 4 wonderful children.

Phyllis worked for several years as a dental assistant for Dr. A. Smeby. She was a hard working farm wife and mother before working as a grocery store clerk for many years. She retired in 2008.

Phyllis enjoyed, playing cards, especially Pinochle, puzzles, bird watching, bingo, Jeopardy, cooking shows, but most of all enjoyed spending time with her family. Other interests included cooking and baking and she was known for her awesome doughnuts and divinity. Phyllis was an avid bowler and once appeared on the Jim Adelson televised bowling show. She was a member of the Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church.

Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Don, daughters: Ginger (Mike) Voglewede, Northwood, Dee Dee (Cary) Stephenson, Pelican Rapids, MN; son Mitch (Sharon) of Fargo; seven granddaughters: Jenna (Joe) Zavoral, Jessica (Ben) Krause, Jessica Voglewede, Kristen Ruud, Taylor Hanson, Anna and Tori Stephenson; great grandchildren: Will and Lucy, Evan and Easton; and brother-in-law Bobby Sanda.

Preceding her in death was her mother, sister Marlyce Sanda, and son Paul.
