Phyllis Marie (Sundquist) Peterson was born April 14, 1936 in Aneta, ND to Hjalmer & Anne (Solberg) Sundquist. Phyllis attended elementary school at Ora #4, a one-room school south of their farm. She told stories of riding to school in a horse-drawn caboose using a hot rock to keep her feet warm in the winter. For high school, she attended Aneta Public School and was a proud Wildcat. She met Allan Peterson and they were married September 23, 1954. They lived in Cheyenne, WY, where Allan was stationed with the Air Force. While there, Debbie & Bobby were born. They later moved back to North Dakota where they raised turkeys and farmed. Mark and Tim were born while they lived near Aneta. After all the kids were grown, Phyllis went back to school and attended Wahpeton College.
Throughout her life, Phyllis wore many hats. She painted, worked on the farm, was employed at Marvin Windows, and served as the Activity Director at the Aneta Parkview Health Center for many years. She made the BEST lefse and buns that were enjoyed by many. She was very skilled at piano, reading music or just sitting down and playing by ear any request that was made. She was an avid Vikings fan & loved traveling to see family events. In later years she enjoyed driving around and checking on farming progress as well as sharing weather reports with family. She always looked forward to meeting her friends at lunch at the Queen City Café in Aneta.
Phyllis was witty, the life of the party, loved to laugh, and always made a person feel like family. More than anything, she loved Jesus. Her greatest desire was that every person she loved would someday join her in heaven. Phyllis passed away surrounded by family in Northwood, ND on September 20th, 2026, at the age of 90.
