Orvis LeRoy Olson

LeRoy Olson, 74, of Hatton, ND passed away Monday, October 10th, 2011, at the Sanford Hospital in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 2:00pm at the Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hatton, ND. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 14th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Zoar Free Lutheran Church, Hatton. Burial will be held in the Zoar Lutheran Cemetery, Hatton.
Orvis LeRoy Olson was born June 8, 1937, at Shevlin, MN to Orvis and Amy (Tollefson) Olson. He grew up in Shevlin and attended school at Solway and East Grand Forks, MN, where he graduated from high school. After serving in the U.S. Navy for four years, he became a police officer in East Grand Forks and later worked his way up to Sergeant Detective with the Grand Forks Police Department. He served as a Deputy Sheriff with the Roseau County and Grand Forks County Law Enforcement. LeRoy then became Police Chief in Hatton until his retirement. After retirement he drove truck for Thorsgard Cattle Company.
LeRoy enjoyed taxidermy, hunting, leather work, competitive shooting, and had a true love for animals. He served as president of the Zoar Free Lutheran Church.
On February 28, 1957, he married Karen Nelson at East Grand Forks. She survives as do his children: Julie Olson, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Pam (Don) Pisick, Weboux, MT, Roy Orvis Olson, Grand Forks, Kari (Scott) Kolling, East Grand Forks, Terry Olson, Hungry Horse, MT, and Hope (Ervin) Skeldum, Northwood, ND; 12 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and sister, Deloris (Kenny) Malm, Warren, MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents and stepfather, Norman Rud.
