Olive "Ollie" Beine

Olive "Ollie" Orraine Beine, 82, of Thompson, ND, died peacefully on Saturday March 28, 2015 at Hatton Prairie Village, Hatton, ND. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 1st at 7:00pm at Holmes United Methodist Church, rural Reynolds, ND. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until the time of the service at the church.
Olive was born March 25, 1933 in Hatton, ND, to Marvin and Ida Rydland. She grew up and attended school there, graduating from Hatton High School in 1951. She received her teaching certificate and went on to teach in Thompson and Emerado before going to Northwood, where she taught for 25 years. While teaching, she took classes and earned her bachelor's degree in 1977. Olive retired from teaching in 1993.
On October 9, 1955 Olive was united in marriage to James Beine, Reynolds, ND, at Washington Prairie Church, rural Hatton, ND. In 1963, they established their farmstead in rural Thompson, where she lived until she moved into Hatton Prairie Village last year. Together they have two sons, Marc and David.
Olive belonged to the Holmes United Methodist Church, where she was a very active member. She was president of the Holmes United Methodist Women for many years. She had a great joy for singing, enjoyed painting and making cards for all occasions and everyone. She held a weekly Bible study in her home for the women of the neighborhood, which she always looked forward to. She also was delighted to surprise people by dressing up and playing her alter ego ‘Dagmar Swenson' the singing telegram bag lady from Norway. But most of all, she loved spending time with her family and friends. Olive was a woman of faith, who will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She will be greatly missed by everyone around her.
Olive is survived by her sons Marc (Jennifer) Beine of Northwood, ND and David (Patti) Beine of Thompson, ND; grandchildren Jenna (Tyler) Peterson, Megan Beine (Derrick Enger) of Hatton, ND, Nikki (Josh) Nelson, Adam Beine of Northwood, ND, Tasha Beine, Jon Beine of Thompson, ND; great-grandchildren Alexa Beine, Parker Skidmore, Tylynn Peterson, McKinley Nelson, and Madalynn Nelson; sister Mardell Nienas of Thompson, ND; brother-in-laws Dale (Shirley) Beine of Reynolds, ND and Keith (Alice) Beine of Itasca, IL; sister-in-law Gaynelle Rydland of Grand Forks, ND; and several nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her parents, her brother Myron Rydland, and brother-in-law Warren Nienas.

Know that prayers are with you all in ND and that you will be in our thoughts a lot. Especially thinking of you tonight as the service was going on. Aunt Ollie will be missed by all. She was a beautiful and strong lady who had a wonderful personality. Dagmar will not be forgotten. She entertained many people with that Norwegian Bag Lady along with her beautiful voice. As she walks that golden pathway to heaven, I'm sure that Uncle Jim is there waiting for her with open arms. Love to all.

Thoughts and Prayers to the Beine Family. Ollie was such an amazing, kind, and loving woman. She holds a special place in my heart. I remember being a pen pal with her when I was younger and sharing our letters through the mailboxes at Holmes Church. She had a love and passion for singing. I can still hear her singing Special Delivery ~ it's near to my heart.

Ollie was an older, wiser friend who believed in me and always encouraged me. She was my 4th grade school teacher and Sunday School teacher for years. But I always felt a special connection, like she knew me better than I knew myself. I will always be grateful for her influence.

I first met Olive Beine several years ago when she sang for morning worship in my home congregation. In serving as her accompanist, I discovered that she was an impressive vocalist who had charming stage presence. In 2009 when I recovered from a quadriceps accident at the Northwood Deaconess Health Center, I soon learned that Ollie was a patient in the room next to mine. We quickly became easy conversationalists and enjoyed each other's company. Ollie had an outstanding teacher voice. She used it delightfully as she would talk with the many visitors who came to see her at the center. I teased Ollie by saying that she was the Queen of Company! Ollie told me that each Christmas she would sing the song "Special Delivery" at the Holmes United Methodist Church. Her presentation became a tradition in the congregation. Last Saturday Olive Beine became a special delivery in heaven, where she has already joined the celestial choir and is thrilling to the dimensions of eternity's Morning. May God bless the memory of this gracious woman of God!.
