Nita Johnson

Nita Johnson, 89, of Hatton, ND, passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2022, at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Nita Joline Hanson was born April 29th, 1933 in Hatton, ND to Harry and Hilda Hanson Sr.  She graduated from Hatton High School as Valedictorian in 1952 and worked for 8 years at the Vestre Pharmacy.  After taking a 2 year correspondence course, she worked at the Tri County Nursing Home as a Medical Record Technician for 24 years.

Nita married the love of her life, Bernie Johnson, on January 3rd, 1953 and they shared over 69 years of marriage.  Nita and Bernie raised two sons, Randy and Tim.  She loved her family and poured her energy into being the BEST wife, mother and grandmother anyone could ask for.  She was faithful in attending activities and school functions for her children and grandchildren.  She was dedicated to God’s work at St John Church in Hatton and served as a Sunday School teacher and she was an active member in the Ladies Aid for many years.  She served on the church council and she shared her many talents; making quilts, layettes and prepared many other needs for the mission.  Nita enjoyed serving on the Tri County Home decorating committee and at home, she enjoyed creating a welcoming environment for anyone that would come knocking on their door.  She always had the best caramel bars, brownies and homemade buns ready to serve.   The grandchildren have spent many hours at her kitchen table, gobbling up all the goodies and the famous milkshakes they grew to expect on every visit.  Her legacy is ‘one that serves’ and it is how she spent every day of her life.

Nita’s mother died from asthma when Nita was only 13 years old and she held the family together at this young age by taking over all the household duties; cooking, cleaning, laundry and making sure her Dad and brother were cared for.   She became a self-taught seamstress, making all her own clothes, and she grew to love making dolls and dresses for her granddaughters and beautiful quilts for everyone in her family.

She is survived by her husband, Bernie, sons, Randy (Margo) of Bad Medicine Lake, MN and Tim (Sheila) of Fargo, ND,  grandchildren: Jeremy (Molly) Johnson, Bryan (Paige) Johnson, Amy (Seth) Durbin, Michael (Katie) Johnson and Molly (Jordan) Wobbema; great-grandchildren: Hayle (Austen), Mikayla, Sydney, Ally, Emma, Hannah, Stetson, Emberly, Piper, Grayson and Cooper; She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois, and niece, Lori.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hilda Hanson, her Step-Mother, Clara Hanson and her brother, Harry (Sonny) Hanson.
