Harriet "Mertis" Johnson, 80, of Northwood, ND died Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Deaconess Health Center in Northwood.

Mertis was born November 15, l928 at Northwood, ND to Henry M. Johnson and Hazel (Haugo) Johnson. She was raised , attended school and lived her entire life in Northwood, ND. She was baptized, confirmed and a life long member of the Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church. She married Phillip Johnson April 14, l951 at the Swarstad Chapel in Northwood, ND. Phillip died in l978. Mertis entered the Deaconess Health Center on February 8, 2001 and remained there until the time of her death. Mertis loved to laugh, tell stories, get mail, anticipate and have visitors, birthday parties and babies. She was always appreciative of every little act of kindness bestowed on her.

She is preceded in death by her husband, father & mother, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She is survived by maternal cousins, Charles (Faye) Swenson, Northwood, ND, Oscar Swenson, Fargo, ND, Janet (Henry) Thorstenson, Grand Forks, ND and their families, paternal cousins Myrna Skalsky and family, Pine River, MN and several cousins in California and extended family, the loving and caring staff at Northwood Deaconess Health Center, Northwood, ND.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 6th at 7:00 P.M. in the Bilden Funeral Home, Northwood, ND. Visitation will be 2 hours before services, 5 - 7 at the Bilden Funeral Home. Burial will be held on Tuesday, July 7th at 10:00 A.M. in the Northwood City Cemetery
