Marty Duane Jorgensen

August 16, 1960 — December 4, 2020

Marty Duane Jorgensen, 60, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on December 4, 2020. A graveside service will be held Friday, May 28, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at the Northwood City Cemetery. 

Marty was born on August 16, 1960 at Northwood Deaconess Hospital in Northwood, ND, the son of Ronald L. and Reva J. (Paulson) Jorgensen.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and grew up in Northwood, graduating from Northwood High School in 1978.  He attended and graduated from NDSCS with an Associate of Arts Degree in Mechanical Drafting in 1980. 

Marty entered the United States Navy in April of 1986 serving 20 years on active duty and 10 years in the Naval Reserves until his 30 retirement in 2016 rising to the rank of Petty Officer First Class AK2.  He served during Operation Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom, and Kosovo.  Marty served aboard the USS Kitty Hawk, USS Nimitz, USS Coral Sea, and USS Abraham Lincoln.  Marty’s Commendations include the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Gold Star (2), Meritorious Unit Commendation, Good Conduct Award and others.  After being honorably discharged he made his home in West Fargo, ND where he drove bus for Fargo Mass Transit and later on, as an Uber driver.  He was also an avid penny stock and day trader always hoping to hit the “big one.” In his spare time Marty enjoyed Tai Chi, good food and wine, Minnesota Viking Football, and playing in poker tournaments around the tri-state and other areas.  A public interment ceremony has been scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Northwood Cemetery.  A gathering of all friends and family will take place at The Hut Bar at its conclusion.

Family members include: Father Ronald of Northwood, ND, Sister Tammy Ree (Gavin) of LaCrescent, MN, and Brothers Daniel (Jodi-Deceased) of Halstad, MN, Mitchell (Jenn) of Hoople, ND, and Lonny (Michele) of Mayville, ND.  Nieces and Nephews include:  Brady, Casey, Taylor, Dalton, Grace, Gunnar, Jordan, Beau, Reeves, and Maddux.

Marty was preceded in death by his mother Reva. 

May the Lord Bless Marty’s new life and grant him Peace.

In lieu of flowers, family members are requesting donations and tributes be made in Marty’s name to:  Mayville State University Foundation Scholarship Fund, Mayville, ND, or the Northwood Deaconess Hospital and Home, Northwood, ND.
