Marilyn Pederson

Marilyn Pederson, 87, of Northwood, ND, passed away Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held Monday, October 27, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood.

Marilyn Meldahl was born on February 8, 1938, to Carl, Jr. and Caroline Meldahl. She grew up for the majority of her youth on the farm in rural Sharon, ND, graduating from Hatton High School. She then obtained her teaching certificate at Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. Marilyn returned home and married Ronald Pederson at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church on July 13, 1958. They made their home in Portland, ND, where Marilyn taught school until February 1959, retiring to stay home until the birth of their daughter, Jan, in May 1959. Rodney followed in May 1961 and Mary in September 1962. Marilyn & Ron moved their family to Northwood, ND in May 1965 where Ron joined the family John Deere business and Marilyn established their home. Marilyn had a varied career including babysitting, working at Engen’s Market, and bookkeeping at Pederson Implement. She was involved in various activities in her church and community, making lifelong friends in bridge club, Literary Club, Order of the Eastern Star, and circle at NELC. She enjoyed traveling in later years including several winters spent traveling and spending time in Arizona in their camper. Ron passed away in 2012. Marilyn enjoyed moving to a townhome in Northwood in 2016 and enjoying more neighbors. She eventually became a resident of the assisted living at NDHC and then moving to the nursing home, where she enjoyed the activities and care provided her.

Marilyn is survived by her children, Jan (Duane) DeKrey of Carrington, ND; Rodney (Lori) Pederson of Hatton, ND; and Mary (Claye) Metelmann of Belmont, MA; grandchildren, Tyler (Cody Landman) DeKrey, RoxAnne DeKrey, Peder DeKrey, Solvay (Marcel) Diggs, Linnea Metelmann, Tor Metelmann, Madison Pederson, and Brodie Pederson; siblings Brad (Mary) Meldahl and Charles Meldahl; brother-in-law Marvin Bohn; sister-in-law, Judith Meldahl; brother Fred’s special friend, Cassie Oster; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews; and numerous cousins. Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; parents Carl & Caroline; parents in law Hjalmer, Sr. & Ethel Pederson; siblings David, Carol Bohn, Rodney, Fred, and Carl, III; nephew Mark Meldahl; great nephew Ryan Hanson.

Memorials preferred to Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church or Northwood Deaconess Health Center.
