Margaret Jean Hemphill

Margaret Jean Hemphill, 79, Victorville, CA, died September 12, 2009 in the Luther Memorial Home, in Mayville, ND.

Jean was born July 7, l930 in Sharon, ND to Albert and Mabel Ness. She was baptized at Hoff Lutheran Church, rural Sharon, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sharon, ND. Jean graduated from Sharon High School in l948. December l951 she graduated from St. Joseph's Nursing School in Fargo, N.D. as a registered nurse. She was married to Dr. Wayne Hemphill. In l974 Jean graduated from California State College of San Bernardino with a B.A. in Psychology. She also took college courses while traveling the world through World Campus Afloat. Jean was employed at Community Hospital of San Bernardino until she was 74. She moved from Victorville, CA to Bismarck, ND in September 2006. In October 2007 she moved to Luther Memorial Home, Mayville, ND.

Jean touched many lives. She was faithful to her employer, a guide to others, and a friend to many. Her interests included traveling, sailing, attending theater events and she was an avid reader. Jean enjoyed spending her summer vacations at Pelican Lake in Minnesota surrounded by her family.

Jean is survived by her sister, Ann (Manley) Hillesland, Bismarck, NDZ brother Albert C. Jr. (Dottie) Ness, Sharon, ND, nephew Steven Hillesland, nieces Jennifer (Scott) Myers and Karena Ness, great nieces Sarah (Blaine) Zainhofsky, Carissa and Caitlin Myers, great nephew Eric (Alicia) Hillesland, great great nephew and niece, Trenton and Aurora Zainhofsky, her aunt Viola Ausherman, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Mabel Ness, and her uncles Martin Jensen and Ole Jensen.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, September 16 in the Luther Memorial Home Chapel, Mayville, ND with visitation l hour before services.

The interment will be at Westfield Cemetery, rural Sharon, ND.
