Larry Kappedal

Larry Kappedal, 70, of Northwood, ND passed away at home in Northwood under hospice care after a prolonged illness on August 1, 2017. A memorial service will be held Friday, August 4, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Larry was born in Northwood, ND on April 9, 1947 to Halvor and Carol (Haugen) Kappedal. As a child and young man, he was known for his big heart and for getting away with just about anything.

On August 22, 1975, he married Beverly Kielland. In 1980, Larry and Bev moved to the family farm outside of Northwood where they raised their daughters, Karli and Kami. Larry continued to farm until his retirement in 2011. His illness limited his retirement, and he stayed close to home in his last years and moved into the town of Northwood when his daughter Kami took over the family farm in 2016. Bev cared for him until the last.

Larry lived a big life. He loved to travel, visiting 48 states, Canada and Mexico. His hobbies included flying and computers. He served on many local boards. He was a Farmer. He loved his land. He was proud of his crops. He loved to harvest corn. He was the kind of Daddy and Grandpa who would give rides on any of the farm equipment his kids wanted. He was an amazing son, husband, father, grandfather and friend.

Larry is survived by his wife, Beverly; his daughters: Karli Kappedal-Hoekstra and Kami Kappedal; son-in-law, Mike Hoekstra; grandchildren: Gabriel and Kasia Hoekstra and Max and Jayci Kappedal; brother, Richard, his wife Bette, and their children Laurie Kappedal and Ryan Kappedal; and Aunts, Lilah Child and Sylvia Kappedal.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law, Jason Anderson; and his nephew, Robert Kappedal.
