Karen R. Bjornstad

Karen R. Bjornstad, 58, of Hatton, North Dakota passed away in her sleep Christmas Morning at Union Hospital in Mayville, North Dakota.

Memorial Mass will be 10:00 am, Monday, December 29, 2008 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church in Mayville with burial in St. John Cemetery in Hatton.

A Gathering of Friends will be at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church on Sunday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm with at 7:00 pm Prayer Service.

Karen Renia Grotte was born April 10, 1950 at Mayville, North Dakota the daughter of Ernest and Sylvia (Walen) Grotte. She was raised and educated in the Finley, North Dakota area graduating from Finely High School in 1968. In November of 1970 she married Steve Immel. After a short time residing in Oklahoma they returned to North Dakota and made their home in Hatton. She then worked as a bookkeeper for several Hatton Businesses. Steve died in September of 1992. After his death she then moved to Fargo and worked in administrative positions. In May of 1996 she was united in marriage to James Bjornstad. They made their home in Hatton.
She was a member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church.
Karen loved reading, camping in the summer and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, James; father, Ernest (Marlys) Grotte of Finley, North Dakota; mother, Sylvia McKay of Mesa, Arizona; son, Scott Immel of Winter Park, North Dakota; daughter, Kristina Erickson of Fargo, North Dakota; grandchildren, Jackson Widme of Twin Valley, Minnesota and Ryann Rose Anderson of Perham, Minnesota and brother, Gary Grotte of San Felipe, Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve.
