JoAnne Ardith Vigen, "Grandma J, Grandma Joni, Grandma Jonanner," 79, of Hatton, ND passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. She had been doctoring for multiple health complications since June 2016. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 25, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Friday, February 24, 2017 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton.
JoAnne was born February 5th 1938 in Hatton, ND the daughter of the late Randina (Wasvedt) and Vigo Onstad. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. JoAnne grew up in Hatton and graduated from Hatton High School in May 1956. After graduation JoAnne was married to Shannon Ostlie and they had 3 children, Jeff, Jackie, and Jay. JoAnne then married Denley Vigen on August 13th, 1971 and to the union was born Jennifer and Jared.
JoAnne worked in many areas where she was able to share her love for cooking. She worked for many years in the kitchen at the school and nursing home. JoAnne was infamous for her macaroni salad, coleslaw, and escalloped potatoes, just to name a few. JoAnne also worked in the housekeeping dept. at the nursing home until her retirement. Many people in the community benefitted from her love for cleaning.
JoAnne loved adventure. She frequently travelled with family. JoAnne went to Aruba, Jamaica, Arizona, California, and yearly trips to Las Vegas.
Her hobbies included going on trips to the casino, going to the lake, canning-especially salsa, baking, reading, making lefse, attending grandchildren activities, dog and cat sitting, and growing tomatoes in her garden every summer.
Most importantly JoAnne's greatest joy was to make others happy.
She is survived by children: Jeffrey (Sharon) Ostlie of Sheridan, WY; Jackie (Ernie) Holte of Northwood, ND; Jay (Kim) Ostlie of Hatton, ND; Jennifer (Peter) Verke of Scottsdale, AZ; Jared (Shannon) Vigen of Hatton, ND; Grandchildren: Christopher (Heidi) Ostlie and Nicolas Ostlie of Perham, MN; Joshua (Martha) Holte of Frago, ND; Shayde Holte of Hillsboro, ND; Misti (Bill) Baker of Northwood, ND; Ashley (Daniel) Holte-Janssen of Aiken, MN; Stephanie (Riley) Lillemoen of Grafton, ND; Jessica Ostlie, Cody Ostlie, Zahra (Jason) Hanson of Hatton, ND; Travis Vigen of Fargo, ND; Tabitha Vigen of Syracuse, New York; Great-grandchildren: Brody, Tenley, Benson, Keegan, Blakely, Alexis, Eli, Levi, Charlie, Izzy, Hazel, Tucker, Faeryn, Tula, Paxton, Alexis, Tyler, Gabe.
She was preceded in death by her husband Denley, parents, siblings: Vern, Orella, Betty Lou, Gilman, Elroy; and great granddaughter Kelee.
We would also like to thank all the nurses and doctors at Altru for their great care.
