Janice grew up in Hatton ND in a farming family. Salutatorian at Hatton HS, she got a medical tech degree in Minneapolis before marrying Richard Grotte while he was in ROTC at UND. She then transitioned for the next 21 years to an Air Force pilot’s wife. Upon Richard’s retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel, they settled in Mayville, ND where Janice took up transcription work for the doctors in the Mayville Clinic. She retired from what was eventually Sanford and returned to her childhood home in Hatton. Janice was an accomplished bridge player and jigsaw puzzle master. She loved to read, bake and travel. Of stout Norwegian stock she had a matter-of-fact personality with a great sense of humor. Janice loved her Lord and St John’s Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND. We give particular thanks to Pastor Bruce Vold and the entire staff at Hatton Prairie Village where she felt very much at home.
