James Pladson

James Pladson, 92, of Hatton, ND, died on August 24, 2023, at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 31, 2023 (James’s Birthday), at 10:00 a.m. at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton. A visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the nursing home. 

James Pladson was born on August 31, 1930, to Willie and Ida (Norgaard) Pladson, he was raised on the family farm in Newburgh Township with his 3 brothers and 2 sisters.  He attended grade school at Newburgh school #6 and was baptized and confirmed at Goose River Lutheran Church. 

James loved farming and had a special love for horses.  He was always available to help his brothers and nephews if they needed an extra hand.  James was a cowboy at heart and trips to the western part of North Dakota with friends for rodeos was his vacation.  He also loved playing cards with family and friends when there was a game going on in the house.  His other interests were reading Zane Grey and Louie L’Amour novels or watching cowboy movies. 

James married Joyce Bjerke on April 6, 1984 at Northwood Lutheran Church in Northwood, ND.  Joyce died in 2013.  James is survived by his sister-in-law Jean Pladson; nieces and nephews: Pamela (Jeff) Brandon, Vickie (Tom) Kirk, Paulette (Loren) Amundson, Renae (Roger) Gjellstad, Dennis Brown, Barbara (Mike) Grande, Rick (Lori) Pladson, Clyde (Dawn) Pladson, and Lori (Cory) Kritzberger along with niece -in-law Patricia Pladson and numerous grand and great grand nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents Willie and Ida Pladson and his wife Joyce; his brothers Edward and wife Thelma Pladson, Russell, and Ray Pladson; his sisters Grace and husband Ernest Erickson and Ruby and husband Robert Brown and two nephews Lyle and wife Linda Erickson and Harlan Pladson.
