Herbert "Bud" Welte

Herbert D. “Bud” Welte, 90, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21, 2022, at his home, rural Aneta, ND. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 5, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at the Larimore United Methodist Church in Larimore, ND. A visitation will be held Friday, November 4, 2022, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood, ND and will continue at 10:00am on Saturday at the church.

Bud was born in New Britain, CT to Dr. Herbert D. Sr and Aletha (Boulden) Welte.  He was raised in New Britain and spent his summers growing up in North Dakota where he honed his skills and love for farming. He graduated from New Britain High School. After earning a Bachelor’s degree from Central Connecticut State College, he received a Master’s in Education Administration from the University of Hartford. He was drafted by the U.S. Army and served from 1956-1958. He taught industrial arts at a high school and college level. Bud married Fanny Peterson on November 18, 1962 in Burlington, CT. They lived in their home on Punch Brook Road in Burlington until moving, along with his wife and children, to the family farm in North Dakota in 1969.

Bud was known among his family, friends and community for his kindness, generosity, and congenial nature. He went out of his way to help friend or stranger and it was thought he could fix anything. He was an accomplished wood worker and craftsman.  His greatest joy was spending time with friends and family, especially his grandchildren. He was well loved and loved well.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Fanny; his daughters, Carol (Lloyde) Richmond and Susan (David) Morten; his son Peter (Lisa); grandchildren: Jake (Alex) Richmond, Nick (Rocio) Richmond; Wyatt, Whitney, and Willo Morten; Cole and Kellie Welte; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by members of his immediate family: his parents, H.D. and Aletha; brother, Keith, sister and brother-in-law, Eileen and Dick Harris; sister and brother-in-law Betty and Jack Lund.

Bud’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the providers and staff of Northwood Deaconess Health Center; Dr. Khaled M. Rabadi of the Grand Forks Clinic and the outstanding staff of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Contributions and memorials may be made to Hospice of the Red River Valley, or the charity of your choice.
