Gerald N. Bachmeier

Gerald Bachmeier, age 68, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood, ND, where he had resided for the past three months. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church in Thompson, ND. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Gerald was born on October 26, 1957, in Minot, ND, to Nick and Pauline Bachmeier. In 1969, Gerald and his family moved to Northwood, where he attended Northwood Public School and graduated in 1977. During his high school years, he worked for his dad at Bachmeier and Sons Construction building houses in Northwood. He continued his education at North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND, where he graduated before returning home to begin his career.

In 1979, Gerald began working at Krabbenhoft Chevrolet in Northwood. He remained there for more than four decades, working as the parts manager until his retirement in 2024. Gerald was a dependable presence at Krabbenhoft’s, always willing to give his time and lend a hand when someone needed it. He never sought recognition for what he did; helping others was simply part of who he was. Over the years, he built lasting friendships with coworkers and customers and became a familiar and valued part of the community.

Gerald was a quiet man who enjoyed life in his own way. He treasured time with family and friends and was happiest when sharing good times with the people he cared about. He had a way of putting others first and making those around him feel welcome and looked after. Gerald was a lifetime member of the Northwood Fire Department.

Gerald enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. In his younger years, he spent many hours working on and fixing up old cars, taking pride in bringing them back to life. He also enjoyed golfing and traveling with friends. Trips to places such as Hawaii and Japan gave him the opportunity to see new places, share adventures, and make memories that would last a lifetime.

His beloved pug, Bella, was another important part of his life. She was his faithful companion and brought him plenty of happiness and companionship.

Gerald is survived by his beloved pug, Bella; his sister, Leonida (Mike) Strande of Thompson, ND; his sister, Pauline Bachmeier of Grand Forks; his brothers, Charlie (Maxine) Bachmeier of Northwood, ND, Clem Bachmeier of Lehigh Acres, FL, and Clayton Bachmeier of Grand Forks, ND. Along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nick and Pauline Bachmeier, and his brother, Ralph Bachmeier and his nephew Eric Bachmeier.

Gerald will be remembered for his quiet nature, his generosity with his time, his love of family and friends, and the many ways he was there for the people in his life. He didn't need a lot of words or attention to leave an impression. The memories he made through friendships, shared adventures, everyday acts of thoughtfulness, and time spent together will remain with those who knew and loved him.

Gerald’s passing leaves a quiet space in the lives of many. He will be missed more than words can say and remembered with gratitude and affection by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
