Gene Shjerve

Gene Duane Shjerve, 87, passed away Monday, February 1, 2021 at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. A private memorial service will be held Friday, February 5, 2021 at the Bilden-Askew Funeral Home in Northwood.

Gene was born June 18, 1933 on the Shjerve homestead in the Barton, ND area to John & Eva (Haverstraw) Shjerve.  Gene was the oldest of 9 children and served in the Army from 1953-55.  On September 7, 1958 Gene married Ida (Feickert) in Minot, ND and they had 3 sons together.

Gene drove the city bus in Minot and later in Grand Forks until he retired in 1999.  He loved telling stories or jokes and making people laugh.

Gene is survived by his wife Ida of Grand Forks, sons, John (Shoni) Shjerve of East Grand Forks, MN and Brent (Nicole) Shjerve of Grand Forks, ND. His sisters: Helen Lewis of Surrey, ND, Joyce Fettig of Minot, ND, Marilyn Bjerke of Rugby, ND and Linda Marion of Sacramento, CA; his brother Norman Shjerve of Mandan, ND; and grandchildren; Ian & Kayla Shjerve of East Grand Forks, MN and Carolina & Colebren Shjerve of Grand Forks, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant son (Bryan), infant sister (Wanda), brothers Roger Shjerve and Dale Shjerve; sisters in law, Adeline Shjerve and Gloria Shjerve; brothers in law, Wellington (Sonny) Lewis, Clem Fettig, Robert Bjerke and Bernard Marion.
