Esther Holter

Esther Holter, 102, of Hatton, North Dakota died Sunday, July 12, 2009 at the Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton with burial in St. John Cemetery.

Visitation will be in the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel on Tuesday from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm with a 7:00 pm Prayer Service and one hour prior to services in the church.

Esther Jeanette Rosholt was born December 5, 1906 on a farm in Mayville Township four miles east of Mayville, North Dakota the daughter of Carl and Hannah (Nelson) Rosholt. Her early childhood was spent in Mayville and her father died in 1911. In 1922 she moved with her mother and sister to Fergus Falls, Minnesota. She graduated from High School there and attended Park Region College.
On December 31, 1927 she was united in marriage to Adolph Stoa in Fargo, North Dakota. Adolph died in 1930. She married Jerome Holter on November 25, 1933 in Hatton. They lived and farmed in Hatton all their married life. For many winters they spent time at their home in Tampa, Florida. Jerome died in February of 2002.
Esther was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, St John WELCA, Tri-County Nursing Home Auxiliary, Republican Women and the former Hatton Study Club.

Survivors include her children: Marilyn (John) Stoa Harms of Bristow, Iowa, Gordon (Jackie) Stoa of Phoenix, Arizona, Janice Grotte, David (Dawn) Holter and Rick (Gayle) Holter all of Hatton, North Dakota, Neal (Carol) Holter of Park Rapids, Minnesota, Carl (Jan) Holter of Waukesha, Wisconsin and Michael (Cyndy) Holter of Plano, Texas; twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-eight great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren; brother: Allan (Carol) Bjertness of Dearborn, Michigan.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Inez Rosholt, son-in-law, Lt. Col. Richard Grotte and one great grandchild.

The Bilden Funeral Home of Hatton is assisting the family with arrangements.
