Elaine Flaten

Elaine R. Flaten, 76 of Hatton, ND passed away Saturday, August 25, 2012, at her home. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, August 29, 2012, at 2:30 p.m. at the St. John Lutheran Church, Hatton. Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 28th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Hatton Prairie Village, Hatton. Burial in the Goose River Cemetery, Hatton. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hatton Prairie Village.
Elaine was born May 29, 1936, in Northwood, ND to Sverre and Margaret Olson. She grew up in Northwood, graduated from Northwood High School and was a confirmed member of Ebenezer Lutheran in Northwood.
In August of 1955, she married Gordon Pladson at Goose River Lutheran Church. She worked at Grand Forks Social Services, Red River High School, Developmental Center in Grafton, ND, and Hatton Prairie Village. On March 10, 1990, she married Ernie Flaten at Little Forks Lutheran Church; he died on January 31, 2006.
Her love of music was evident as she played the organ and sang at Hatton Prairie Village and several local churches. She also enjoyed rosemaling, china painting, and visiting at the nursing home. Elaine loved her grandchildren and followed them in all of their activities.
She is survived by her children: Vicky (Ron) Buchwitz, Hoople, ND, Cathy Markel and Gary Pladson, both of Hatton; grandchildren: Tanya (Jeremy) Hultin; David and Joseph Markel; Stephanie and Jessica Pladson; two great grandchildren Cameron and Kylie Hultin and several half brothers and sisters
Preceding Elaine in death were her parents, husbands, and grandson Joshua Buchwitz.
