Edna Olson

Edna Olson, 94, of Aneta, ND passed away Saturday, July 2, 2022 in Aneta. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 8, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Hatton, ND. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. 

Edna Ovedia Olson was born November 17th, 1928, in McVille, ND, to Andrew and Annie (Lee) Hegna. She grew up on the family farm along with her 3 siblings, Melvin, Arthur and Alice Hegna (Haugo), in Lenora township. There she attended country school until the 8th grade. 

Edna welcomed her son, Bob Carson into the world on May 19, 1957. He was her pride and joy. She would speak often about Bob, Bob's wife Brenda, her grandchildren, her great grandchildren and their beautiful ranch in Grassy Butte, ND.

On June 16th, 1964, Edna was united in marriage with the love of her life, Glenn Olson. They resided in Northwood and later made their home on a farm near Aneta. They were married for 31 years. 

Edna was known for the love she had for her nieces and nephews. She was proud to say that she was like a second mother to David, Perry, Bonnie and Dee Haugo. 

She was known for her laugh, her welcoming smile and her ability to make a room roar with laughter with one of her many "stories".  

Throughout the years, Edna worked at both the Northwood and Aneta nursing homes.  When Edna wasn't working, she enjoyed playing bingo and rummage sailing with her best friend Margaret Sotvik.  Edna also enjoyed having an occasional rum and coke and opening a pull tab here and there with her cousin Lily Good. 

She also enjoyed gardening with her siblings Melvin and Alice, reading romance novels, talking on the phone, writing letters and she loved to send birthday cards because she never forgot a birthday. 

 She was a member of the VFW, Aneta Friendship Club and the Northwood Lutheran Group. 

Survivors include her son, Bob (Brenda) Carson, Grassy Butte, ND; grandchildren: Krista (Zach) Verlinde, and children, Kailey, Charles, Chasen and Ella, all of Noonan, ND; Amanda Carson, West Fargo, ND; Johnny Carson, Grassy Butte, ND; 

She is also survived by her nephews, David Haugo and Perry Haugo; niece, Bonnie Haugo; great-nieces, Heidi Lemaire and Christine (Donovan) Fougner; great-great nephews: Manatua Lemaire, Terai Lemaire, Bryce Nestegard, David Teo, and Cristian Fougner, all of Aneta, ND; and great-great-great nephew, Carter Workin.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Glenn; parents, Andrew and Annie Hegna; brothers, Melvin Hegna and Arthur Hegna; sister, Alice Haugo; and niece, Dee Haugo;
