Dorothy Thompson, 98, of West Fargo, ND, and formerly of Sharon, ND, passed away Monday, April 28, 2025, at New Perspective Senior Living in West Fargo. Funeral services will be held Friday, May 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharon. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Dorothy Florence (Frohriep) Thompson was born on Mother’s Day, May 9, 1926 in Chicago, IL to Alfred and Emma (Triner) Frohriep. She passed away on April 28 at New Perspective Senior Living, West Fargo.
She attended grade school in Chicago and high school in Coal City, IL graduating in 1943. After graduation, she moved with her parents to a farm in Westfield Township.
Dorothy attended Mayville Teachers College briefly for a teaching certificate. She taught at the Rockney School and Center School, both in Westfield Township and at the Bang School near Portland.
She was united in marriage on June 28, 1953 to Carl Thompson Jr at Hoff Lutheran Church, rural Sharon. They lived and farmed in Westfield Township, rural Sharon, ND. They were married for 42 years before Carl passed away in 1996.
Dorothy was involved with Westfield Homemakers Club and with Westfield Livewires 4-H. She and husband Carl were active in 4-H work as member and leaders for 35 years. She also taught Sunday School and was an officer for WELCA. Dorothy and Carl enjoyed bowling in the Ma and Pa league in the early 1960’s. She and Carl also served on the Steele County Historical Society in their retirement years.
Dorothy worked as secretary for Soil Conservation Service in Finley, served as Deputy County Treasurer for 4 years and then elected Steele County Treasurer for 8 years. She retired in 1989.
In her retirement years Dororthy enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ for many years.
She was preceded in death by son William Alfred Thompson, her parents, and her husband.
She is survived by her children; Cheryl, Fargo; Robert (Candi), Rapid City; Cindy (DelRoy) Ketterling, Wishek, and Doris, Fargo. Grandchildren include Shane Thompson, Cherise (Ross) Hunter, Ashley (Kyle) Ballew, Kristen (Joel) Knudsen, and Amber (Nathan)Hakk and 13 great grandchildren.
