Delvin Gylten, 89, of Northwood, ND, passed away Friday, September 26, 2025, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center with his family by his side. A memorial service will be held Sunday, October 5, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, ND. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Delvin Elroy Gylten, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on December 1, 1935, in Sharon, ND, the third son of Magnus Olai and Alice Elizabeth (Olson) Gylten. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith.
Delvin spent his early childhood in Sharon, attending school there through the fourth grade before continuing his education at a country school west of Northwood, ND. He graduated from Northwood High School, where he met the love of his life, Doris Hanson. On September 4, 1954, the two were united in marriage at Washington Lutheran Church in Northwood, beginning a lifelong partnership that spanned 71 years.
With a drive to pursue his passion for working with his hands, Delvin attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, where he earned his degree as an electrician in 1959. He dedicated the next 37 years of his life to his profession as an electrician, retiring in 1996.
Retirement, however, did not slow him down. Known to many by the phrases, “Delvin could fix this” or “Delvin could build that,” he quickly became the trusted local handyman. His skill and dedication extended far beyond his career – he built, repaired, and crafted countless projects for his neighbors, friends, and church family at Washington Lutheran.
A true tradesman at heart, Delvin delighted in staying busy, whether through electrical work, woodworking, or any project that needed a capable pair of hands. He found joy in solving problems, creating with care, and helping others.
Delvin is survived by his loving wife, Doris; his three sons, Doyle (Mary), Dean (Dave), and Darin (Stacy) Gylten; five grandchildren: Jill Oliphant, Cindy (Dave) Ackley, Amy Ratajczak, Jake Gylten, and Kate Gylten; nine great-grandchildren: Austin, Cassandra (Jeremy), Marra, Sienna, Finn, Ben, Cameron, Isabella, and Elin; and three great-great-grandchildren: Jamison, Grayson, and Cora; and brother, Wally Gylten.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Vernon Gylten and his wife Thelma; and sister-in-law, Arlayne Gylten
