Delores Mastrud

Delores L. Mastrud, 90, of Hatton, ND, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Hatton Prairie Village in Hatton, ND. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Delores Louella “Balstad” Mastrud was born October 10, 1932 to Peder and Jorgine (Hagen) Balstad on a farmhouse west of Portland Junction. There were fourteen children born to this union: Marvin, Helen, Martin, Pearl, Klarius, Alpha, Rosella, Vernon, Gladys, Peder Jr., Ruth, Thomas, and Carol. She attended school in Portland and grew to womanhood in the Portland, ND area. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at Aurdel Lutheran Church in Portland.

Delores married Myron R. Mastrud in Crookston, MN on August 18, 1952. After their marriage, the couple made their home in Hatton, where she worked for several years. She started working at the age of 14 at the potato house in Portland. She did a lot of picking and grading potatoes. Delores worked several years at the potato house in Hatton. She worked in many cafes in Portland and Hatton. She owned and operated her own café for a couple of years. She worked on and off at the Tri-County Nursing Home in Hatton doing laundry. Delores worked at many bars in Hatton. She managed the Sports Bar for about 10 years.

Her husband Myron worked as a farm laborer, worked for the City of Hatton and also for S&S Construction doing street work. Delores and Myron were blessed with nine children.

Delores was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, rural Hatton.

Delores is survived by her children: Gary Mastrud, East Grand Forks, MN; Judy (Tim) Richardson, Deer Park, AL; Tami Ostlie, Hatton, ND; Patricia (Scott) Marks, Pierce, NE; Timothy (Cindy) Mastrud, Grand Junction, CO; daughter-in-law, Cathy Mastrud, Bismarck, ND; sons-in-law: Steve Aune, Lake City, FL; James Frandson, Hunter, ND; David Flaten, Hatton, ND; 19 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Alpha Thurman, San Clemente, CA and Carol Bovaird, Grand Fork, ND; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Peder and Jorgine Balstad; husband, Myron in November of 1979; son Myron (Butch) in October of 2012; daughters, Dorothy Flaten in May of 2016, Debra Frandson in June of 2016 and Susan Aune in January of 2023; sons-in-law, Michael Holkesvig in October of 1990 and Keith (Kippy) Ostlie in February of 2021; daughter-in-law, Marlene Mastrud in March of 2018; her siblings: Helen, Marvin, Martin, Pearl, Klarius, Rosella, Vernon, Gladys, Peder Jr., Ruth and Thomas. She will have a joyous reunion of many family and friends on her final destination.
