Cynthia Baker

February 14, 1958 — April 17, 2025

Cynthia “Cindy” Louise Baker, 67, of Northwood, ND, passed away unexpectedly April 17th, 2025. A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 6th at 3:00 p.m. at Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church in Northwood, ND.

Cynthia Louise Baker, adopted daughter of William and Gladys Powell, was born February 14th, 1958 in Yokohoma, Japan. She was shortly thereafter brought to the United States to be raised up in Rio Linda, near Sacremento, California.

She lived out her childhood in rural California raising goats, chickens, and various other small animals. She was always telling stories of her father’s bait shop and meeting with the local fisherman. She would often talk of wanting to go to her birthplace in Japan and find her biological family which was a dream that was never realized.

On December 5th, 1981, she and Stanley Baker got married in Emerado, ND. She spent a number of years working at Community National Bank in Grand Forks as a teller and eventually working at Walmart working in the cash office. Later in life, she worked at the local grocery store and gas station. She always loved to converse with people. She lived a full life and had many stories to tell from her childhood which she loved to recount.

She was a wonderful grandmother – always willing to watch her grandbabies whenever she could. She always carried around whichever one was the baby – even doing so with her great grandbabies. She was also an avid crocheter who loved making blankets for each new baby born into the family.

She was well known for walking her beloved dogs, several of which she had throughout the years and always treated as lovingly as possible, all around the town of Northwood at all hours of the day and night.

She is survived by her husband Stanley Baker, Sr of Florida; stepson Stanley Baker, Jr. of Oklahoma; stepson Joel “JoJo” (Tammy) Baker of North Carolina; daughter Jaylyn Michelle (Benjamin) Hunter of Florida; daughter Trisha Baker of East Grand Forks, MN; son William (Misti) Baker of Northwood, ND. And by her grandchildren Sydney, Serenity, Symphony, and Sophey (Hunter); Mara and Kaden (Baker); Alexis, William, Levi, Charolette, Isabelle, and Hazel (Baker). Great grandchildren, Auroa (Roehrich) and Leif and Torger (Korsmo).

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys Powell, and her granddaughter, Mackenzie Cote.
