Curtis Funseth

Curtis L. Funseth, 66, of Northwood, ND passed away Friday, January 24, 2020 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held Monday, January 27, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the church.

Curtis Luther Funseth was born on May 8, 1953 in Northwood, ND to Carlott and Arleen (Robertsdahl) Funseth. He grew up on the Funseth farm near Northwood. He attended Avon 36 country school and graduated from Northwood High School in 1971. Curtis graduated from NDSU in 1978 with an associate’s degree in animal science.  

On June 24, 1978, Curtis married JoAnn Midtbo, the daughter of Olaf and Jean Midtbo of Hatton, ND. Curtis and JoAnn farmed and raised cattle in the Northwood area.

Curtis served on the boards of Avon Township, Wally Mutual Insurance, Northwood Co-Op Oil, and the Northwood North Cemetery. He was a member of the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity at NDSU and sang with the Trailblazers in Mayville. He was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church.

Curtis loved sharing his many hobbies with family and friends. He enjoyed far north fishing trips to Canada as well as fishing and hunting locally and riding horses. He had a passion for music and a wide-range of musical taste. He enjoyed playing guitar and banjo. Curtis loved to travel and was known for taking the scenic route. He had a special interest in history and geography. Curtis was always filled with hope and faith for the future. Above all else, Curtis cherished his family. He had a special love and connection with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn; daughter, Marie (Sean Beanland) Funseth; daughter, Kari (Jeremiah) Messner; son, Kyle (Kathryn) Funseth; grandchildren: Rhett, Everly, Jack, and Mia; brother, Gene (Rose) Funseth; sister, Becky (Keith) Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death was his father, Carlott and his mother, Arleen, and infant sister.
