Bruce Coryell

March 7, 1942 — May 19, 2020

Bruce Coryell, 78, of Northwood, ND and formerly of Fargo, ND, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 19, 2020 at his home in Northwood. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, May 30, 2020 at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo. A visitation will be held Friday, May 29, 2020 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at Ebenezer Free Lutheran Church in Northwood. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Fargo.

The Lord brought him home in the most fitting of ways; he passed away peacefully in his sleep at home after spending time with earlier that day with family.

Bruce Coryell was born March 7th, 1942.  He grew up in Fargo, with three brothers, Darce, Stanley, and Richard and graduated from Shanley High School as a letterman in multiple sports.  He married his sweetheart Marie Jeanne Rheault, originally from Horace ND in 1960, they were married for 58 years until her passing in 2018.  They had five children, Jeanne (Phil) Tittle, Navarre, FL; Jane (Jarrod) Gerner, Barnesville, MN; Janet Coryell; Jodi (Ted) Lloyd, Northwood, ND; and James Coryell, Anchorage, AK.  Bruce was blessed with 16 grandchildren and soon to be 15 great-grandchildren.

Bruce worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company and subsidiaries in Fargo, ND, for over 30 years before retiring in 1998.  They enjoyed retirement by spending the winters at their home in Green Valley, AZ and summers in ND with family or at the lake.  Bruce was an avid golfer and outdoorsmen, he loved to hunt and fish; when they moved back to ND full-time, he enjoyed his garden, chickens and puttering around on his tractor.

Bruce is preceded in death by his wife Marie and infant daughter Janet; parents John and Florence Coryell; brothers Darce, Stanley, and Richard.

Bruce’s strong faith in our Savior, Jesus Christ, allows us to celebrate his life, knowing he is now in heaven with Marie for eternity, as promised in John 3:16 and again in John 5:24.  “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of the death into life.”
