Betty Lenz

Betty Lenz, 87 of Reynolds, ND, passed away Sunday, December 25, 2016 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Holmes United Methodist Church, rural Reynolds. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Betty was born November 14, 1929 in rural Reynolds, ND to Henry and Rose (Schroeder) Beine. She grew up on the family farm and attended Hatton High School, graduating in 1947. She furthered her education at Deaconess School of Nursing in Grand Forks, and received a registered nursing degree. She worked at the Deaconess Hospital for a time and then spent 42 years at the Northwood Deaconess Hospital.

She married Lloyd Lenz on November 25, 1950. Together they farmed and milked cows on their farm in rural Reynolds. In addition to her nursing career, Betty was an active member of the Holmes United Methodist church, serving in many capacities. She was active in Grand Forks County Homemakers club and enjoyed being a member of birthday club. She was an avid gardener and did much home canning and baking. She showed her love of animals by befriending a cow, Molly, family dog, Abby, and cat, Zeek.

One of Betty's most enjoyed retirement activities was attending the UND hockey games.

Betty is survived by her children, Pat (Myron) Disrud, Rolla, ND: Paul Lenz, Reynolds, ND: Pam Crawford, Grafton, ND; five grandchildren: Marlys (Ryan) Severance, Brad (Tiffany) Disrud, Janelle (Shawn) Carnahan, Zach and Zane Crawford: seven great-grandchildren, her sister Mildred (Al) Waterman; sister-in-law-, Lois Lenz and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd, her parents, a son-in-law, Ken Crawford; sister, Ethel Schroeder, brother-in-law, Kermith Schroeder; brother, Hank Beine, sister-in-law Caroline Beine.
