Betty A. Beck, 86, of Northwood, ND, passed away Sunday, July 20, 2025, at Luther Memorial Home in Mayville, ND. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 25, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Bilden Askew Funeral Home in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home.
Betty Ann (Halstensgaard) Beck was born September 14, 1938, in Thief River Falls, MN, to Olaf and Bergine (Gjernes Rome) Halstensgaard. They lived in Goodrich, MN, and farms near Goodrich and Gary, MN. Betty graduated from Gary High School in 1956. She attended Mayville State Teachers College and taught elementary school for four and a half years. Later, she was a substitute teacher and para in special education.
Betty married Gilman H. Beck from Portland, ND, on December 30, 1960, at Gary Lutheran Church in Gary, MN. They lived in Mahnomen, Alvarado and Oslo, MN and Mayville, Grand Forks, and Northwood, ND.
Betty was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, Literary Club, Whipstitchers Quilters and Homemakers.
Along with her faith, her family came first. She loved seeing her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow and learn.
Favorite pastimes were Christmas with family, weekends at Tulaby Lake, reading, needlework, sewing, quilting, visiting, puzzles and playing games.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie (Darius) Schneibel, Fargo, ND and Wendy Wolfe, Moorhead, MN; grandchildren: Danielle (Matt) Roller, Dexter (Sabrina) Schneibel, Jenna (Jacob) Longlet, Jill (David) Coble, Kyle Aune, Alyssa (Dikwan McKenzie) Aune, Katelynn Blatchford and Allison Blatchford; 15 great-grandchildren; sister Thelma Eide, Mayville, ND; brother Gaylen (Noreen) Halstensgaard, York, ND; sisters-in-law Shirley Beck, Portland, ND and Virginia Halstensgaard, California; Betty is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Gilman; son Terry; granddaughter Lindsey Blatchford; brothers Orville and Harvey; and several aunts, uncles, brothers and sisters-in-law.
