Beth DeLano

April 15, 1926 — April 1, 2017

Beth DeLano, 90, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017 at the Hatton Prairie Village, where she had been a resident since August of 2015. She had previously lived in Northwood, ND. A memorial service will be held at the Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Beth was born April 15, 1926 in Iowa to Bernard and Louise (Hall) James. She graduated from Egeland High School in 1943 and worked for Douglas Aircraft in California. At the end of WWII, she attended UND where she met and married Dr. Robert DeLano on Dec 21, 1946 in Grand Forks. Following college, they moved to Northwood, ND in 1953 where she raised her children and supported Bob's work at the Northwood Clinic. She was active in many social organizations including: Legion Auxiliary, Northwood Literary Club, Park Board, PTA and Cub Scouts. She was a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Grand Forks, and the Northwood Evangelical Lutheran Church of Northwood. Beth enjoyed her time at Morson, Ont. on Lake of the Woods. One of her passions was UND Sioux hockey. She was a lifelong fan, and particularly enjoyed her time as the "Beer Grandma". She especially appreciated the kindness, fun and noise of the UND athletes, staff, students and fans at the "Ralph".


Survivors include her sons: Richard (Judy) DeLano of Spokane, WA; Gordon (Sharon) DeLano of Hatton, ND; daughter in-law, Margaret DeLano of Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren: Tamara (Jason) Wills of Pullman, WA; Jim (Victoria) Delano of Hoover, AL; Paul (Bridget) of Temple, TX; Amanda DeLano & Sakara DeLano of Rochester, MN; great grandchildren: Katelyn and Alex Wills, Pullman, WA ; James and Amelia Delano, Hoover, AL; and Megan and Alyssa DeLano, Temple, TX. Beth is also survived by numerous relatives, nieces, nephews and friends across the US.


Beth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert; brother, Martin James of Houston, TX; and her son, David of Alpharetta, GA.

Beth's humor, humility and caring will be missed by all.
