Audrey Meland, 89, of Northwood, ND, passed away Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Northwood Deaconess Health Center in Northwood. Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 9, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Community Bible Church in Northwood. A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.

Audrey Mardell Meland was born August 19, 1934, to Canfield and Alma Sheggerud in Northwood, ND.  She attended a country school through 8th grade, then finished her education in Northwood, graduating in 1952. She met the love of her life, Noren Meland, her senior year.  They were married on August 30, 1952.  They enjoyed 68 years together. 

She started working at Aurland’s Café in Northwood while still in high school.  That is where she started serving tables and never quit!  She loved to feed her family and friends.  She was Noren’s bookkeeper at the Lumber business.  She and her mother started doing a lot of the painting and staining of the homes that Meland Lumber built.   She raised 4 children and enjoyed attending their school activities.  Audrey and Noren were Boy Scout leaders for many years as well.  They enjoyed their summers entertaining at Maple Lake, and their grandchildren and great-grandchildren all have fond memories of hours spent at the Lake.  They also spent many years as “snow birds” in Arizona and established many dear and lifelong friendships.  Audrey was known for her dried beef and “Grandma Audrey” buns.  No one left her place hungry.  She always had a cup of coffee ready with a treat.  She developed a “candy corner” in her kitchen once the grandkids came along.  Everyone who visited Audrey knew about her corner of goodies. 

She is survived by her children, Dr. Brad (Beatriz) Meland, Bastrop, Texas; Randy (Elaine) Meland, Northwood; Kathy (Ken) Tinquist, Fargo; Rick (Maureen) Meland, Northwood; 14 grandchildren, 33 great- grandchildren; brother, Virgil (Marcia) Sheggerud, Northwood; brother- in-law, Rueben (Aldene) Meland; sister-in-law, June Tangen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Noren, her parents, and great-grandson, Jamison.
