Ann Halverson

Ann “Annie” (Haga) Halverson, 64, of Grand Forks, ND, formerly of Northwood, ND passed away after a brief illness on December 1, 2023, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, ND, surrounded by family.

Annie was born in Northwood, ND on February 13, 1959, to her loving parents, Glenn and Ardith (Thue) Haga. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1977, and married her high school sweetheart, Terence Stenmo, in 1978. They welcomed three daughters together, Tera, Jenny, and Chelsey.

Throughout her life she worked a variety of jobs. She and Terence owned the Coast-to-Coast Hardware store in Northwood in the early 1980’s, she managed La’Te, a jewelry store in Grand Forks, ND in the 1990’s, and later found success in car sales and management using her amazing people skills.

Annie was a skilled piano player, great bowler, and an avid bargain hunter. She loved shopping, especially at rummage sales, hunting for that amazing find. She loved the thrill of negotiating and getting a great deal. She loved going to the movies, having dinner with dear friends, and spending time with her beloved dog, Molly. Her daughters brought her so much joy, and she was so proud of the women they became. She found immense joy in spending time with her grandchildren and watching them in all their activities. She was so proud of all their accomplishments. She loved her children and grandchildren beyond measure.

Annie struggled with mental health issues throughout most of her adult life. Like many who suffer from mental illness, on the outside Annie displayed a happy and cheerful demeanor so you wouldn’t know that she suffered on the inside. She worked for years to overcome her mental illness. We would like to acknowledge and honor the journey she took and the progress she made while recognizing the impact her struggles had on her life. She will be loved and missed by all that were fortunate to know her.

Annie is survived by her daughters, Tera (Matt) Hansen of Rochester, MN, Jennifer (Justin) Valinski of Grand Forks, ND, and Chelsey (Nick) Johnson of Rochester, MN, her grandchildren, Cole and Alex Hansen, Nora and Asher Valinski, Connor, Camden, and Cohen Johnson, brother, Gerald (Sherry) Haga and her nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Nolan Valinski.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the Bilden Askew Funeral Home in Northwood, ND, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The burial will be held on a later date.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI).
