Alpha Flaten

November 20, 1920 — January 18, 2018

Alpha Jeanette Flaten, 97, of Hatton, ND passed away Thursday, January 18, 2018 in a vehicle accident enroute to an appointment. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton. A visitation will be held Friday, January 26, 2018 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service at the Hatton Prairie Village Chapel in Hatton.

Alpha was born to Peter and Hannah Thoreson on November 20, 1920. She graduated from Mayville High School and attended Mayville State College where she obtained a B.S. Degree in Education in 1963. On June 10, 1940, Alpha married Kenneth A. Flaten of Hatton, ND. They celebrated their 77 years of marriage on June 10, 2017.
Alpha taught school for 35 years. She was a very devoted tracher and was loved by all her students. She loved her family and friends, working at the church and the Senior Citizens Club. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and entertaining.

Alpha is survived by two sons: Ken Richard (Javon), Hatton, ND; Donald Westly (Mary Alice), Waukesha, Wisconsin; and daughter, Joyce Ann (Greg Plush), Georgetown, Texas. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Nona Delores Erickson, Portland, ND; and brother, Peter Thoreson Jr., Mayville, ND;

She was preceded in death by her spouse, Kenneth; parents, Peter and Hannah Thoreson; two brothers, Mayo Thoreson and Howard Thoreson; and sister, Eleanore Erickson.
